Install .Net Framework 4.0
Alfa Ebooks Manager 2.0 requires .Net Framework 4.0, but not 3.5 (as the previous versions). If you don't have it - you can download and install it from here
Convert your current database to new SDF format
Alfa Ebooks Manager 2.0 uses SDF database, but not MDB (as the previous versions). It will make it faster and more reliable. Please follow these easy steps to convert your current MDB database to the new format:
1. Make sure that your .MDB database file is saved outside the Alfa Ebooks Manager installation folder.
2. Install the new version of the program and launch it
3. Delete all books from the sample database or create a new database (File -> New database)
4. Open File -> Import from -> Alfa Ebooks Manager database
5. Select your old .MDB database file
6. Press the Load button and the list of your books will be loaded to the window
7. Select the books that you want to import using the mouse, Ctrl or Shift (Ctrl+A will select all books)
8. Press the Save button to import the selected books
What's new in Alfa Ebooks Manager 2.0?
Here is the list of new features:
- Multiple genres per book
- Tags (you can create any tags and add them to books, i.e. "Wishlist", "Loaned", "Favorites", etc)
- Custom fields (up to 5 text fields). They are searchable, can be displayed and sorted in the Table View
- Universal search - one search box for titles, authors, ISBN, custom fields
- New Edit Books tool - allows to edit almost any parameter in multiple books at once
- New Scan tool - now allows to create book covers for PDF, FB2, LRF, EPUB, CHM
- File Parser - allows to retrieve ISBN, ebook metadata, create book covers for books that are already in the database
- Support for extracting PDF metadata
- Retrieving ISBN and creating covers from PDF files now doesn't require Ghostscript installation
- Multiple books selection now works without checkboxes (supports Ctrl, Shift, Ctrl+A)
- New panel porting technology allows to arrange Library Explorer, Books View, 3D-View as you like
- New queries: Books without authors, Books without thumb
- Author photos in the Library Explorer (as well as genre, series, tag pictures)
- Format field in the book card
- Editable Add date field
- Database management tools (Shrink, Compact, Repair)
Dismissed features:
- Favorites - because now you can create a tag "Favorites" and assign it to your favorite books
- Preview internal pages on 3D-View - please use our another program Gooreader for this purpose
- Wall View
- Last accessed books
- Reports
- Import from Google Library
- Binding field in the book card - it was replaced with Format field
- Retrieve ISBN tool - is replaced by File Parser, that provides more options
- Dark theme - it will be back in the near future
