Book thumbs are used on all e-Library views to make them more beautiful. You can create book thumbs in one of the following ways:
- render thumbs from book files during the Scan process
- download thumbs when adding/updating books from the Web (book sites)
- create thumb for each book when updating book cover in Book Properties
Book Covers are used to create 3D Book models and can be viewed in Book windows. They are also used in some e-Library views (Volume Large and Bookshelf Large). You can create book covers in one of the following ways:
- download covers when adding/updating books from the Web (book sites)
- find and download cover from Google Images
- create cover from any image-file on your computer
- render cover from PDF file (Note that you need to have Ghost Script installed)
Note: for each book you can store Front and Back cover separately
Download thumb and cover from the book sites
When you add or update book from one of the book sites, you can download book thumb and cover. By default the software downloads both thumb and cover and will ask you every time to specify a folder to save a book cover. If you want to save book covers automatically to one common folder, you can set this folder in Tools -> Options. If you don't want to download covers and/or thumbs you can uncheck them in the Update Options.
Download thumb and cover from Google Images
You can quickly pick book cover from Google Images in Book Properties -> Front Cover tab.
By default the tool searches book cover by ISBN. If ISBN is absent, it searches by book title. You can also enter any custom query to the search box. When you find the desirable cover, select it and click OK:
The thumb will be automatically created from the downloaded cover.
Download thumbs and covers using the batch Web Update tool
When updating multiple books from the Web you may also update their thumbs and covers. Note, that batch Web Update tool allows to download covers only to one common folder. You can select this folder in the tool options. This folder is synced with the covers folder set in general Options.
If the download folder is not specified - only book thumbs will be downloaded. Note that in this case thumbs are not created from large cover images, but downloaded in the original size and then resized to the default size set in Options. That's why the thumb quality may be low.
