Scan

Any chance in a future version that the Scan Dialog could be made non-modal. It is annoying that while it is open you are unable to move the main window in any way.

Of course, it would be even nicer if you could continue working in the main window while the scan progressed.

I have a big library, and have been having some problems - including OutOfMemeoryExceptions - which I will report separately if they happen again. However, every time I run a scan it appears to access every file, including the ones that are already in the database - and I now have 'parse metadata' option turned off.

I am comparing this to media applications that parse mp3s , they zip along through the files they have seen already to find and parse just the new ones. Is there a way to make AEM do this, or will it take a long scan every time I add a couple of new files to the directory?

Thanks

Hi,
The Scan tool can scan only new files only if it stores the index of all previous scans. That would complicate the software and make the database larger. Is this feature so necessary? If you have two or three new ebooks, you can add them manually. If you have a lot of new ebooks, you can scan the folder and separate them easily in the Scan tool.

May be it will be enough to create a separate Parse Metadata tool for parsing books that are already in the database?

Thanks for your ideas

First, your product have potential to become an important and very useful product.

The scan tool MUST have the capability to scan the disk incrementally (identify new ebooks). If you think about tiny users with few ebooks - you will not make it commercially. If you are going after the commercial market, users will not be able to locate the modifications for you. They have a computer for this purpose.

The fact that the index is large is a factor in a manual system. If you use a computer - make good use of it. Have the functionality, not the 'savings'.

At the least, let your user decide.

Your CAPTCHA is annoying. I am not intelligent enough to figure it up. Why do you need it after I have entered with valid user ID and Password? For the joy of it?

The answer you entered for the CAPTCHA was not correct.

Again and Again and Again. Just to prove to me how stupid I am

avi, thanks for your feedback and support!

The scan tool can identify new books. You just need to set the duplicates search option. The books that are already in the database are shown unchecked, so if you press Save - only new books will be saved

> Why do you need it after I have entered with valid user ID and Password?

Because spammers' technologies are very advanced now, and they manage to post even under the login
