GENRES
I was under the impression Genres were getting an overhaul. I am getting an error importing from my old database.
Error Message:
Field can contain 100 characters at maximum.
If you've ever imported info from Amazon, which just about every book I have has been updated via Amazons Web Service. Genres with more than 100 characters is extremely common.
- I havent tried importing from Amazon with fields longer than 100 char, not sure what happens, but I will check. While attempting to check this for errors I realized drag and drop import has been removed. This pretty much makes this program useless.
- Genre names cannot be duplicated under different parents. - This for me is a really big deal, I cant ever use the genres feature because of this limitation.
After further investigation, it looks like the length of the field for genre names have been reduced from 255char to 100.
This creates a problem when importing longer named genre fields.

Now the program updates genres from Amazon more logically.
For example if a book on Amazon has genre
Books > Professional & Technical > Professional Science > Behavioral Sciences
the program will put this value to database not as a single-string genres (as before), but will split it to multiple genres
- Professional & Technical
- Professional Science
- Behavioral Sciences
That's why we made the length of the Genre field smaller
