File Rename Bug, File deleted from computer!

Hi there,
I just purchased your software yesterday and like it a lot.
I'm using v1.8 (beta) on Vista 64bit.

If i open a books properties and click on the "File" tab.
Then rename the book using the icon.
I noticed if I accidentally rename the book using the exact same template.
I get a dialogue File "*Path*\*Name.pdf*" already exists, overwrite? OK or Cancel
If I cancel it cancels normally but if I select overwrite I get the following Exception...

File '*Path to file*\*Filename.pdf*' exception.
Could not find file '*Path to file*\*Filename.pdf*'
OK
{Where Path to file\Filename.pdf represents the actual filename}

The file disappears from my computer the second this dialogue shows up.
I've done a couple full computer searches for the file and checked the Garbage.
No luck, the file is gone.
This wasn't crucial because I have backups of all my files.
Someone else may not be so lucky.

Can anyone confirm this bug on another system?

Let me know if I've forgotten any information you require

Keep up the good work.

Comments

Hi, thanks for your kind words and for this bug report.

It seems that file really disappears on Vista 64. We'll fix this in the next build and send you the corrected version
Meanwhile take into account that this occurs only if you try to rename file to the same name as it currently has. If you rename it to a new name - everything works OK. Note, that when the new file name is different from the current name, it's highlighted with green on the File Rename box.

I found a similar, possibly related problem.
When updating a PDF files properties using the "View Properties of PDF File" button in a books properties page.
If you change a books properties and save it, then save it a second time with the exact same properties, you get a popup dialogue with an OK button.
When you click ok, the actual file doesn't get rewritten so it leaves an empty file in the directory.

Sorry, kinda hard to explain.
Thanks

Hi,
We can't reproduce this error here. Please, send us to support@alfaebooks.com the PDF file that causes the problem

I'll send you one as soon as I find a suitable candidate.
Thanks!

I have trouble even accessing "File Manager" on some databases. The program will lock up and then close without ever opening the dialog box that allows you to choose whether you want to rename files, move files, or whatever. This is on Win7/64... not sure if it will duplicate on another machine, but I'll try it and will report back.

Hi Cosmo,
You say this occurs on some databases. Could you find out how these databases differ from others, or could you send a database that has this error to support@alfaebooks.com
