Ehancement Request: Set file modified date as Publish date if there is no publish date

Hi,
While importing the books, Publish date is being set with current date if it is not parsed from file.
I think, most likely the file modified date will be closer to the Publish date rather than the importing date.
Kindly let me know if it makes sense to implement. Thanks.

Santosh, yes it would be closer, but not correct anyway. Probably it will confuse users even more

Even the current behavior confused me. Then only I thought of this solution. Anyway if it is not confusing for most, then I am ok with the current setup. If there can be option to choose the default publish date also will help.

Otherwise is it possible to add 'Publish Date' one of the field in the batch 'Edit Books' option? so that I can import books and edit all at once to set the publish date. Thanks.

Santosh, but the Edit Books tool would set the same publish date to many books. I don't think that many books in one's library have the same publish date

ok. Thanks for the response.

I agree with Santosh: If the parser cannot find the publication date (which is a well-documented field in PDFs) using the file modification date would be preferable to just using the import date. While the file date might not be completely accurate, it almost guaranteed to be more accurate than the import date. Having just finished updating over 700 records with identical (and thus useless) "publication dates", I am very confident that this would be an improvement. And actually reading the publication date would be even better.
